Grandfather in WW2
My Grandfather fought in World War 2, but he would never talk about any of his experiences, and I do not know which regiment he was in. Where would I start to look for information about him, without knowing any details about the regiment or about any of his experiences? Undecided

RE: Grandfather in WW2
I would check with every other relative and his old friends first, he may well have spoke to them about things, also see if they have any old photos of him in uniform or anything else you could pick up clues from.

Thanks for the link Big Grin although with my subscription to The Genealogist (signed up this morning!) I can see the records on there.

RE: Grandfather in WW2
Hi, have finally found out some more information about him after speaking to a relative (and after having no luck with my subscription Sad) - it turns out he worked at the docks, I believe in or around Portsmouth, rather than actually fighting in the war. I believe he was part of a group of electrical engineers? Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can find out more about this, and if possible, find a record?

RE: Grandfather in WW2
Would it be classed as work of national importance? I know quite a few jobs were. you could try TNA or even try a search engine see if it throws up anything. I know WW11 records are with the MOD, and I think you have to pay quite a bit for info. It is definately worth asking any family for any info Smile
